
Popular dances are part of the folk-art culture, which includes traditional dance plays and festivals. They are divided into two genres: lyric and epic.
Lyrical dances are a big place in choreographic folklore. They are mainly composed of women, fewer men or women and men together. Their types are ritual dances, wedding dances, erotic dances, humorous dances, pantomime dances.
Epic dances are characterized by strength, burreria, trimeria, combat character, grandeur and so on. They are mainly composed of men and less of women or together. Their types are: battle dances, and trimerie dance.
Shot Dance
One of the most popular dances in Kosovo. The word “fairy” is used to pamper for young girls, skillful and beautiful. The dance is played in several variants: two women or girls, one man’s wife (or even two couples), two men and so on. It’s lyrical dance. It is played at all festive gatherings and most during the wedding celebration. It is accompanied by various vocal-instrumental forms.
Labe Men’s Dances
They are accompanied only by polyphonic songs and genres take the names according to the first verse of the song. From the content belong to the epic dances of bravery. The epic pathetic character is expressed through characteristic structures of dance and interpretation. The most original jumping of these dances is in two groups, in two semi-circles that communicate in the form of dialogue. The popular twin world is dominating. The jump is mainly related to the first dancer, the dance conductor (in fact they are two). The general begins to dance with an inner force, after the first man’s movements comes the occasional clash of feet from the ground, the half-deep falls on one or both legs, the torsional rotations, the body’s bending, etc. The dance of the dancers accompanying the iso plays with simple but heavy steps, in keeping with the character of the dance.
Vallja Çamiko
Dance of Men of Chameria. It has great emotional power and aesthetic value, a reason that has attracted the attention of both domestic and foreign scholars who have spoken about its spread to Greek as well. There are some variants that are also practiced in other areas of South Albania, with names, choreographic compositions and various vocal-instrumental accompaniments. The most popular are the “Isuf Arrapit Dance” and “Osman Takes Dance”. These names, popular traditions, are linked to the capitals of Ali Pashe Tepelena. They are epic dance. Even when pausing in doubles or in groups, the first dancer plays the main role. One of the most original figures of his body is this: he makes walking lightly, rises on one foot, rotates and at this moment bends the bow back, touching the floor or the ground, while the other dancers pass over his body.
Vallja Dardharë
The women’s dance with the origin of Dardhe village of Korça. For authenticity, wealth and interpretation has become popular throughout the country. Ladies play in half-circle formation, caught in chains, shifting from right to right. One variant has the name of the first string of text: “25 braids” (traditionally women in Pear wear long hair and braid them). The dancers jump and sing at the same time, one tells the song, a second wait, while others in the group keep voice. Usually, what draws dance also plays the role of songwriter, at the same time “lifts the leg and the song”.
Pogonishte
The jump originates from South Albania. The pace is 2/4 and leaps open and shaped by the united people. Style is proud. There are also popular costumes for women and men.
